Fashion show practice

Celebrations Unlimited Events will hold its 3rd Annual Spring Fashion Show, with a Circus Du Soleil theme on Saturday, April 22 at 7 p.m. in the Savannah State University Student Union Ballroom.

Proceeds from this event will help fund the Phi Beta Sigma fraternity scholarship program and Future Minds Literacy and Adult Education Inc. The ringmaster for the evening will be Chi Chi Bonet Sherrington, Miss Savannah Pride 2014-2015.

This runway event will showcase unique clothing with a circus-themed touch from 10 designers from the local and surrounding area. The designs will be displayed on models who were scouted from SSU and all over the Savannah area. Marissa Russell, senior journalism and mass communications major, said that preparing to model in the show is “fun and for a good cause.”

“I feel like we’re all ready," Russell, the reigning Miss Lethal Allure Nation 2016-2017, said, adding the models are encouraged to “be creative as they want.”

Zelonia Williams, owner of Celebrations Unlimited said she's excited about having this year’s fashion show at Savannah State.

Williams said, “What better opportunity to get the school involved with (the show) as well as the students,” than to host the show on campus.

Williams also said Future Minds Literacy and Adult Education Inc. is located on campus “to give the GED students more so of a promising future in continuing their education." She said statistics showed the GED students are more likely to continue their education.

Williams said she wants the show to be “on point” as she seeks to put attendees in an eccentric, exciting evening at the circus. There will be vendor booths, highlighting local make-up artists, hairstylists, as well as four of the 10 designers.

The evening will kick off with a red carpet event at 7 p.m. and the show will start at 8 p.m.

Future Minds Literacy and Adult Education Inc. and Phi Beta Sigma fraternity both support literacy and education. Future Minds Inc. provides individuals aged 16 and older with the opportunity to improve their academic and technical skills to attain their GED at no cost. The Phi Beta Sigma fraternity holds a scholarship program, the Miss Phi Beta Sigma Pageant. This scholarship is set to go to a young lady who is talented, community oriented, excelling academically with a positive attitude.

Tickets for the event range in price from $5-$40 for this event and can be purchased at http://bit.ly/2ofiGxm.
