Comedy Show

Notable comedians Darren Brand, Chico Bean and Karlous Miller took center stage Wednesday night at Tiger Arena for day four of Homecoming at Savannah State University.

The event was coordinated by the Campus Activities Board. SSU students laughed with excitement as Darren Brand joked about issues on a HBCU campus.

“Y’all deal with the worst from excessive parking fees, the lunch food is bad and you always pissed off at the financial aid office," Brand said.

Brand's ability to relate to these subjects had the crowd rolling in tears as he shared his own experiences being a student at a HBCU. Comedians Chico Bean and Karlous Miller's segments highlighted Homecoming activities, college romances and the importance of practicing safe sex.

Chico Bean talked about having a child while he attended Winston-Salem State University.

“This is the best time of you guys' life and you should enjoy it the best way possible," he said.

Takira Williams, a junior biology major, said, “The comedy show was worth buying a ticket and waiting in line. I laughed during all segments as they talked about subjects that were relatable and funny to us students.”

As the show of the night continued, DJ Miami and DJ Keesh hyped up the crowd waiting for the arrival of Atlanta rappers Lil Baby and Gunna.

The College Park-native Gunna performed first as he rapped his latest singles “Drip or Drown” and “Spending Addiction." Lil Baby made his grand entrance by performing latest single with Gunna “Drip Too Hard."

Students were singing along to every piece performed.

Alexis Martin, a sophomore studying social work, said, “This has been a great Homecoming so far. The energy is great and the line up of events are well put together."

SSU alumni also attended the event. Kevin Biggins, a journalism and mass communications alum, said, “This has been this best Homecoming so far. I love Lil Baby and Gunna music and it was dope to have them both here at our institution.”

The week is not over yet as the annual condoration will take place Thursday at 8 p.m. in Tiger Arena. The Savannah State Homecoming Experience is just heating up.
