The 36th Annual Oktoberfest is coming to downtown Savannah October 4-6. The free event features live entertainment, food, arts and the popular wiener dog racing. The Oktoberfest festival provides fun for all ages to enjoy.
Festival Coordinator Brigitte Vanbaelen said, “It’s a free festival, that brings Germany Heritage, food, and the 36th annual wiener dog race to Savannah.”
Oktoberfest is a celebration of Germany’s world largest “Volksfest,” held in mid-September to the first Sunday in October. In Savannah, the coordinators are taking the 16-to 18-day folk festival and condensing it into a three-day celebration honoring Germany. The event will include games, a variety of beers and arts.
“It’s a Weiner Dog racing, bratwurst tasting, Oompah dancing celebration that gives Germany feels with Savannah twist,” the Savannah Waterfront Association touts on its website.
Oktoberfest has been bringing Germany traditions to Savannah riverfront since 1983. The Savannah Waterfront has worked tirelessly to bring the cultural event to Savannah that gathers the community to share the occasion.
“We bring Oktoberfest to Savannah River front to honor cultural heritage with activities, and it brings a fun experience to the Savannah Community,” Vanbaelen said.
