Homecoming won’t be the same this year due to unprecedented times of COVID-19. It's that time of the year where students across the nation look forward to. During homecoming, there are plenty of events going on every day of the week and students have the opportunity to socialize with other students and alumni as well. With the mask mandate and social distancing in order, homecoming won’t be the same this year and some events planned for this year are virtual instead of in-person. You can expect less participation this year simply because people are still trying to be cautious of the coronavirus and with sporting events being canceled things won’t be as exciting.

On Thursday, October 15, 2020, there are a few events planned back-to-back from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. These events are: ‘Cooking With AC’, ‘Everybody Mad Podcast’, and lastly ‘Throwback Thursday’. The one most people will look forward to is the event at 9:00 pm which is the ‘Throwback Thursday’ because students will have an opportunity to share their most memorable homecomings. That event will be hosted by K. Botchey, who was formerly known for his appearance in season 7 on ‘Love and Hip Hop: Atlanta’.

When asked about this year’s homecoming former Ms. Kappa Alpha Psi Natayja Smith stated, “Homecoming this year to me, although with COVID still going on I appreciate the school still trying to give something to the students although others probably look over it I still appreciate them for giving us something. It may not be the best events compared to past homecomings but it’s still something.” When asked about the events for Thursday, Smith said she is most looking forward to the throwback Thursday event and she shared her favorite Homecoming memories as well.

Smith stated, “Looking at all these events I’m looking forward to the Throwback Thursday event where we talk about throwbacks of all homecomings because we always hear about old SSU vs new SSU so it would be cool to hear different stories of all the past homecomings.” Smith also said, “My most memorable homecoming was my Sophomore year because I was serving as Ms. Kappa Alpha Psi which gave me an excuse to attend all the homecoming events throughout the week."
