The continued 5 session event, Tigers Protect The Den: "A Series of Campus Forums to Support COVID-19 Safety and Precautions," Dr. Macy Young continued to bring students and faculty together under the Gazebo, to continue the discussion of Covid-19 and how students and faculty can fight against it. The topic for the day topic was: Social and Emotional Well-being: How can I best take care of myself and the ones I love during this unprecedented time of stress and anxiety? The event took place on Friday, September 17, at 2:00pm EST.

From businesses to studies to our social relationships, the COVID-19 pandemic has dramatically altered our way of life. The new world presents people with a distinct set of challenges. Self-care can encompass a wide range of activities that are beneficial physical, emotional, spiritual, and mental wellbeing.

Self-care is defined as the actions you engage in to care for your own health. These behaviors can include sanitation, nourishment, pastimes, athletics, fitness, obtaining expert healthcare services when necessary, and much more.

In the middle of a worldwide pandemic, the need to look after our own health, in all of its forms, is critical because managing this turning point isn't easy. We understand how difficult it is to convince your children to participate in Online learning, to work successfully from home all day, to live in close confines with roommates for far longer hours than you're used to, or to be cut off (at least physically) from loved ones.

Today’s discussion was about taking steps to manage all of this and starting with affirmations in the morning. Wake up in the morning with a positive attitude, by telling yourself you are loved, you are enough, and you will make it. Self care is not being selfish, but about making sure your own mental health is at ease.

Solitary conditions caused by COVID-19 can have severe consequences. When you consider how everything in your daily life could be unexpectedly paused, it can be mentally draining. Restriction is a difficult task that can lead to sadness and anxiety, with anxiety playing a particularly important role when the length of isolation is unknown.

That connection is needed for humans, whether it's through physical touch, dialogue, or simply knowing you're loved. You might wish to have a quarantine buddy to help you with this, but still practice social distancing and staying safe.
