Zeta's Celebrate 89 years

Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. celebrated 89 years of scholarship, service, sisterly love, and finer womanhood on Jan. 16. The Rho Beta chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. displayed a board about the history of the sorority and passed out invitations to the students for the Founders' Day Program. The Founders' Day Program was held on Jan. 21 in the Savannah Ballroom at 6 p.m. Opening selection "Lift Every Voice and Sing," was led by Everett Hall followed by the welcome and occasion given by Myleka Jenkins. Greetings from the Divine Nine were followed by an invocation given by Felecia Wyatt. Takela Wilson recited an inspirational poem titled "Our Five Pearls." Tawana Parker educated the crowd on the history of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. and the Rho Beta chapter. Kristen Williams tribute to the founders' consisted of a brief bio of each founder and the lighting of a candle in memory. Stephanie Couture introduced the speaker of the evening, the Reverend Carol King, a member of the Alpha Theta Zeta chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. King encouraged younger generations to stand up and take action. As Tierenee Roberson sung "Hero" by Mariah Carey, a video was played recognizing memorable moments in the sorority's history. Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. honored those who assisted the Rho Beta chapter as they improved over the past few years. The honorees were Mr. Shed Dawson, Mrs. Joanne Quarterman, and Ms. Carol Alderman. The program closed with the greek melody and the singing of the hymn. After the Founders' Day Program, a reception was held in the University Village recreation room.
