On Thursday April 21, 2022, the office of Student Affairs presented its annual Clifford E. Hardwick leadership award banquet hosted by Director of Student Life, Desmond Stowe.
The Clifford E. Hardwick service recognition program is dedicated to recognizing the outstanding student organizations here on campus. Awards that were presented were swearing in the new Student Government Association student leaders for the 2022-2023 academic school year, recognizing the Student Orientation Leaders, Campus Activities Board, highest stripes and community service members and many Greek awards.
This year the Gamma Upsilon Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. reached great success as they took home almost every Greek award of the night. Their victory was swept with the assistance of their reigning chapter president Jasmine Cook. Madam president secured the highest sorority member GPA and highest overall GPA.
The chapter won the highest sorority chapter GPA, but just when we thought it was over, the awards kept coming.
The next award the Gamma Upsilon Chapter won was the Chapter of the award, representing over fifty programs to date. They took home the award for best service project for the 2021-2022 academic school year. The service project they completed was “Caregivers Day”, that project committed the day to service those who service others by donating to St. Joseph Cancer Center and volunteering with the Old Savannah City Mission.
Although this was their biggest service project for the year, they also completed events such as, “Kollege Konnections”, “Let’s talk about mental health awareness seminar”, “Painting with a passion” and “Get it off your chest” to represent Breast Cancer Awareness month.
The Gamma Upsilon Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sorority, Inc. seeded here at Savannah State University has done such tremendous work throughout this school year. As they go into the 2022-2023 school year, I know the service they have done will continue to prosper.
