The Savannah State University Tigers signed 31 recruits Wednesday for National Signing Day. Coach Shawn Quinn expressed visible elation with the results of the work he and his staff put into this recruiting cycle.

The clear priority of this recruiting season was a “912 takeover” as Coach Quinn said. The Tigers landed 11 local prospects on Wednesday also have a number of local walk-ons that would be announced at a later time as well as a couple players still in the process of signing.

“We felt like he was explosive every time he touched the football. He had a chance to score, and you can’t put a premium on that,” Quinn said. Local standout Marquell Brown is one of the most highly touted recruits by Coach Quinn.

Of the 31 recruits laned, 23 of them received all-state or all-region honors during their high school careers. Quinn says he doesn't plan on redshirting any recruits. All of the incoming recruits will have the opportunity to have an immediate impact. Some players will inevitably redshirt, but with plenty of positions opening because of graduating seniors, it’s a wide open competition.

Quinn acknowledged that two Tigers that would have an immediate impact are Kenneth Lockhart from Bradwell Institute in Hinesville and Jorge Gonzales from Claxton High School. The Tigers are looking for them to fill the void left by the graduation of All-Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference kicker Giovanni Lugo.

The Tigers will be opening spring practice on February 17 with the annual Orange and Blue game held on March 11.
